Let us guide you through the steps you need to protect yourself and your money should your card/wallet become lost or stolen.

1. Report Your Debit and Credit Cards.

Thieves act fast, so call Interior Savings immediately to report your cards missing and put a hold on them.

2. File a Police Report

Make note of everything in your missing wallet and file a report with the police. You may need this later to dispute fraudulent transactions or identity theft.

3. Put a Fraud Alert on Your Accounts

Setting up a fraud alert with the credit bureaus means any new credit requests must be approved by you first.

4. Report Your SIN at Risk

If your SIN was in your wallet, get in touch with Services Canada ASAP. Their agents will help put in place measures to protect your identity.

5. Cancel Other Cards

You’d be surprised what can be used as ID. Make sure you cancel any membership and loyalty cards to minimize a thief’s access to your personal information.

6. Replace Your ID

If your driver’s license and BCID were in your wallet, you’ll need to report their loss to ICBC and visit your nearest driver licensing office to replace them.

7. Monitor Statements and Credit Reports

Keep an eye on your accounts. If you notice any suspicious activity, get in touch with us immediately.

8. Update Recurring Payments

If you’ve replaced your credit card(s), make sure you update any automated payments to avoid missed payments and late fees.

De-clutter Your Wallet

Do you really need all those cards? Purging monthly and keeping only the cards you frequently use will minimize your risk of identity theft. Do not carry cheques in your wallet.

Don't Carry Too Much ID

Leave your SIN and birth certificate at home unless you really need them. All that personal information is an identity thief’s dream.

Photocopy Your Wallet Contents

Keep a secure record of all your cards, along with the numbers to call if they’re missing. That way you can act quickly when needed.
